The proposed Hydro Power Project at Tangnu aims to generate hydroelectric power using the energy from the flowing rivers, Supin and Sundru. It plans to have three units, each with a capacity of 2.0 megawatts (MW). The main goal is to utilize the natural potential energy of the rivers to produce electricity.
The generated electricity will be supplied to the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB), which is a state-owned power utility company. By supplying electricity to the grid, the project will replace the need for electricity that would otherwise be generated by fossil fuel-fired power plants dominating the grid. This will result in the displacement of CO2 emissions that would have been produced by those fossil fuel power plants.
Since the project is a new and Greenfield project, the baseline scenario refers to the situation that existed before the project started. In this case, it means the electricity generated through the hydro power project replaces the electricity that would have been produced by fossil fuel plants.
The project is scheduled to be operational and commissioned by December 31st, 2013. Once operational, it will contribute to cleaner and more sustainable energy generation by using the renewable power of flowing rivers.
